Job description
The Technical Officer provides technical support in the design, planning, execution, and analysis of complex fire safety experiments and tests for the Construction Research Centre. The role involves fabricating, instrumenting, and testing wall, floor, and column assemblies while troubleshooting technical issues and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Hard requirements
- College diploma in an Engineering Technology discipline related to the position (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Significant experience providing technical support and troubleshooting in a laboratory environment with emphasis on instrumentation and sample construction
- Extensive experience with safe operation, calibration, design, maintenance, verification, repair, and installation of equipment and laboratory apparatus
- Extensive experience working with and developing safe work instructions
- Extensive experience with construction techniques to prepare and build test samples according to detailed technical drawings
- Experience in project management focused multi-disciplinary research environment
- Experience producing construction drawings using AutoCad or equivalent software
- Experience designing, developing, evaluating and/or testing new technologies, tools, and procedures
- Knowledge of ULC, ASTM, and ISO standard test methods and CSA building material application standards
- Valid Driver’s License
- Reliability Status (verification of background information over 5 years)
- Ability to possess physical capabilities including working in confined spaces, at heights, lifting up to 25kg, crouching, bending, twisting, walking, and climbing stairs/ladders
- Ability to wear required PPE and use machinery while retaining related certifications
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather
