Job description
Bylaw Enforcement Officer I provides fair and consistent enforcement of municipal bylaws within the City of Salmon Arm. The role involves responding to public complaints, investigating bylaw and animal control matters, liaising with agencies, maintaining files, and assisting with court proceedings.
Hard requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 education or proven equivalent
- Completion of JIBC "Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement & Investigative Skills 1" or equivalent
- Minimum two (2) years experience in bylaw enforcement, as a law enforcement officer, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid British Columbia driver's license with a clean Driver's Abstract
- Working knowledge of the court and judicial system, bylaw enforcement legislation, litigation preparation, and acting as bylaw prosecutor
- Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise reports and present evidence in court
- Demonstrated ability to use tact, diplomacy, and courtesy when dealing with the public
- Experience using Microsoft Office software
- Strong organizational skills and ability to use/maintain a records management or tracking system
Pay & benefits
- $40/hr
